About Katie’s Kitty

Katie Lindenbaum, Owner of Katie’s Kitty

Katie’s Kitty was founded in 1997 by my father Peter Lindenbaum, and he proudly owned and operated Katie’s Kitty until he passed away in late 2021. My father devoted his entire life to the mission of Katie’s Kitty. The pets we care for and their pet parents, along with our professional sitters and boarders (some of whom have worked with us for well over a decade), meant everything to him.

Just a few words about my Dad: He was hilariously funny and he could make just about anyone laugh. He was an avid reader and history buff. Anyone who knew my dad knew that he absolutely loved all animals, but he had a very special place in his heart for cats and dogs. I can’t think of a better way to honor my father’s memory than to do it through the work of Katie’s Kitty, by continuing to provide the highest quality, safe, thorough, and compassionate care to animals.

We are a family owned and operated business. If you are one of our regular clients, you most likely have been in touch with my Aunt Lois (my Dad’s twin sister) who shares the same passion for animals and helps manage the day-to-day operations.

Below is my father’s original mission statement for Katie’s Kitty. Thank you for taking the time to hear our story.

Katie’s Kitty Original “About Us”
by Peter Lindenbaum

My name is Peter Lindenbaum and I am the owner and founder of Katie’s Kitty. Thanks for stopping by our website. I started Katie’s Kitty in 1997 as a result of a conversation with my then precociously perceptive 8-year-old daughter, Katie. Having noticed that I was unhappy with the work I was doing, she said, “Daddy, why can’t you do something that you love instead?” And so, our roots are very humble (e.g., neighborhood dog walking, cat sitting and pet boarding from our apartment on the upper east side of Manhattan). It wasn’t long, however, before things started to change. Word-of-mouth began to spread. As the business grew and I could no longer tend to each customer personally, I realized that quality home care for animals in Manhattan was sorely lacking at that time.

Since then we have grown tremendously, but certain things remain unchanged. Your cherished companion will always be treated with the same degree of personalized care and attention that I would give my own. Any sitter who works for Katie’s Kitty must have animal welfare as their number one priority (there are plenty of businesses in which the bottom line can be the bottom line – this is not one of them). As a result, I have been blessed with a roster of dedicated sitters who have been with me for many years and who, in turn, pass that degree of loyalty on to their respective clients (making themselves available on relatively short notice for their regular customers). If you would like to speak with us personally or if you would like to make arrangements to meet with a qualified sitter that lives in or near your neighborhood, please contact us at 212-288-5712.

“We’re here for you when you can’t be there for them.”

Our heartfelt thanks to all Katie’s Kitty customers, for trusting us with the care of your beloved pet, and for allowing us to share in their love for so many years. We look forward to a continued relationship with you and your pets.
